programs
at
the

Women

Engineering
(WiE)
Women
in
Engineering
(WiE)
at
the
University
of
Waterloo
aims
to
provide
support
for
women-identified
students
and
alumni
as
well
as
encourage
women
to
become
involved
in
engineering,
a
field
in
which
women
have
long
been
underrepresented.
The
committee
members
of
WiE
are
comprised
of
a
variety
of
backgrounds,
thus
catering
to
the
diverse
needs
of
students
both
on
and
off
campus.
WiE
has
been
active
since
1992,
providing
resources,
programs
and
networking
opportunities
for
women
in
engineering
programs
at
the
University
of
Waterloo.

WiE
community

EngiQueers
The
EngiQueers
at
the
University
of
Waterloo
is
a
drop-in,
anonymous
chapter
of
EngiQueers
Canada
focused
on
connecting
and
supporting
LGBTQ2S+
students,
both
within
the
Faculty
of
Engineering
and
within
the
community
at
large.
Weekly
meetings
are
held
at
the
engineering
student
lounge
(POETS)
or
on
our
Discord
(while
we
are
online),
to
which
all
are
welcome.
The
chapter
also
regularly
hosts
game
nights,
movie
nights,
and
other
social
events
whilst
facilitating
the
maintenance
of
a
safe,
inclusive
space
on
campus
for
those
who
identify
as
a
part
of
the
LGBTQ2S+
community
and
for
those
who
support
it.

National
Society
of
Black
Engineers
(NSBE)
The
National
Society
of
Black
Engineers
(NSBE)
chapter
at
the
University
of
Waterloo
supports
the
academic
and
professional
success
of
Black
engineering
students
on
campus.
This
goal
is
fulfilled
through
a
variety
of
events;
for
instance,
NSBE’s
Upper
Year
Chats
allow
newer
students
to
tap
into
the
knowledge
and
experiences
of
Black
upper-year
engineering
students.
Students
also
have
access
to
the
Black
Study
Hall,
where
they
can
socialize,
network,
and
support
each
other
throughout
the
various
stages
of
their
academic
career.
Ultimately,
NSBE
aims
to
improve
the
overall
success
of
its

academic

American
Indian
Science
and
Engineering
Society
(AISES)
in
Canada
The
AISES
(American
Indian
Science
and
Engineering
Society)
in
Canada
chapter
at
the
University
of
Waterloo
provides
a
culturally-safe
space
for
Indigenous
students
(graduate
and
undergraduate),
faculty
and
staff
in
STEM
fields
to
gather.
AISES
is
committed
to
fostering
an
environment
in
which
Indigenous
folks
can
establish
meaningful
connections
with
their
peers,
both
at
UWaterloo
and
beyond.
Members
are
kept
informed
of
opportunities
such
as
scholarships,
grants,
and
co-op
positions,
and
the
chapter
looks
forward
to
hosting
more
in-person
activities,
such
as
lunch
with
Elder
Bill,
as
COVID-19
restrictions
lift.

Centre
The
Women’s
Centre
aims
to
provide
a
female-positive
and
supportive
environment
on
campus
for
all
women
and
trans*
folks.
The
Centre
provides
students
with
sexual
health
resources
such
as
condoms,
pads
and
pregnancy
tests;
holds
peer
support
hours
with
an
intersectional
lens
where
students
can
drop
by
for
support
on
any
and
all
issues;
hosts
an
extensive
library
of
over
900
books
that
cover
a
variety
of
topics
surrounding
all
women
and
trans
women;
and
holds
workshops,
events,
film
screenings,
and
campaigns
to
educate
on
various
issues
through
an
intersectional
feminist
lens.

Glow
Centre
for
Gender
and
Sexual
Diversity
Glow
is
the
oldest
continually-running
university-based
2SLGBTQ+
group

Canada.

entirely

dedicated
student

Glow
promotes

healthy
attitude
towards
all
sexual
orientations
and
gender
identities
on
the
UWaterloo
campus
by
providing
a
wide
variety
of
peer
support,
social
events,
advocacy
work,
and
resources.
The
Glow
Centre
is

in
the
Student
Life
Centre,
up
a
set
of
stairs
off
the
Great
Hall
on
the
QNC
side
of
the
building.
