The Vector Institute drives excellence and leadership in Canada’s knowledge, creation and use of artificial intelligence to foster economic growth and improve the lives of Canadians. The institute is dedicated to the transformative field of artificial intelligence, excelling in machine and deep learning research.
The Vector Institute’s Faculty Affiliates Program brings together leading researchers from across Ontario to expand expertise in deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
This year, eight faculty members from the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science became Vector faculty affiliates. Congratulations to Professors Shai Ben-David, Yuri Boykov, Maura Grossman, Jesse Hoey, Kate Larson, Jimmy Lin, Olga Veksler and Yaoliang Yu.
Faculty affiliates play a key role in developing, growing and diversifying knowledge and research within the local AI community, and work with industry where interests align. In total, 63 faculty affiliates were selected from nine universities and institutions in Ontario. The Faculty Affiliate Program complements the Postgraduate Affiliate Program launched earlier this year.
Applicants and nominees were evaluated and selected according to the strength of their research contributions and the alignment of their interests with Vector’s vision, mission, and research strengths.
Selections were made based on recommendations from a committee comprised of Vector faculty who hold appointments in a variety of institutions. Faculty affiliates are appointed for two years and nominations are considered annually.
