In their letter to Nagappan, MSR 2018 Award Chairs Professor Massimiliano Di Penta of the University of Sannio in Benevento, Italy and Christian Bird, Researcher, Microsoft Research, wrote, “The award committee — composed of seven senior researchers in software engineering and chaired by the two of us — carefully evaluated all nominations and enclosed recommendation letters. As a result of the extensive evaluation process, your name emerged as the clear recipient of the award.”
Nagappan will be presented with the award at the MSR 2018 Conference, an annual meeting of software engineers held this year in Gothenburg, Sweden from May 28 to 29. The field of mining software repositories analyzes the rich data available in software repositories to uncover interesting and applicable information about software systems and projects.
“Mei has been working on big data problems, specifically mining ultra large repositories of software and analyzing different combinations of repositories,” said Mark Giesbrecht, Director of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science. “His research addresses the needs of different stakeholders from software maintainers to software operators. It’s great to see his work recognized by representatives from academia and industry.”
