I wanted to invite you, your faculty, and the students in your HR program to a series of three webinars on the regulation of the HR profession in Ontario. The webinars are free and they are open to non-members as well. The webinars are scheduled for April 4, 11, and 18, 2012, (three consecutive Wednesdays) between 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm on each of these days. Although designed as a series, each webinar can be taken individually as well.
Not so long ago, professional regulation was considered somewhat of a ‘quirky’ topic. But now, with the advent of first Bill 138 and now Bill 28, the whole topic of professional regulation has become more front and center. And yet, it is a topic that is not particularly well understood by HR professionals. The purpose of this series of three webinars is to help HRPA members and others gain a better understanding of the regulation of the HR profession in Ontario.
Visit HRPA Webinars for registration.
I would appreciate it if you made your faculty and students aware of these free webinars.
Feel free to get in touch should you have any questions about these webinars.

News
- HRM course offerings for Fall 2012/Winter 2013/Spring 2013 are now available on the HRM website.
- Note that HRM 303 (Compensation), HRM 305 (Health and Safety), and HRM 307 (Labour Relations) will be offered twice next year.
- The 2012/2013 Undergraduate Calendar was released last week.
- HRM requirements are changing - effective Fall 2012 we will be replacing all current HRM academic plans (e.g., Option, two Specializations) with a single HRM Minor (and Diploma) and, because of concurrent changes to Minors in the Faculty of Arts, the HRM Minor will be reduced from ten to eight courses.
- Students currently enrolled in an HRM Minor, Option, or Specialization may complete their current HRM plan requirements or may switch to the new requirements if they are enrolled in UW courses Fall 2012 or later – I will be contacting you Fall 2012 with further information/instructions about how to facilitate this switch. Students switching to the eight-course HRM Minor must complete all course and average requirements as indicated. Students graduating in June or October 2012 are not eligible to switch to the 2012 requirements.
Reminders
- Fall 2012 Pre-Enrolment is February 27 through March 4. Be sure to take advantage of this pre-enrolment opportunity! Your next chance to enrol in Fall courses will be enrolment appointments in June.
- HRPA/CHRP Information Session is Wednesday March 7, from 4:00-5:20pm in PAS 1229. Learn more about the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) and the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation!
- HRPA Grand Valley 2012 Annual Award application deadline is March 19.
- University of Waterloo’s Excalibur Team will be competing in Montreal March 16 and 17. Excalibur is a unique and high-level HR competition that brings together teams from all across Canada, teaching students how to solve real-life work situations. UW has had two podium finishes in the last three years. Best wishes to our 2012 Team: Alex Soley, Kevin Boisvert, Jacky Yeung, and coach Len Luksa – Go Waterloo!
- Student Leadership Program offered through Office for Human Development (OHD).
- Counselling Services offers individual counselling, study skills, and other valuable workshops for you! Check them out.
