Applied Mathematics Graduate Student Wins Faculty of Mathematics Three-Minute Thesis Competition

Applied Mathematics PhD student Thomas Bury is one of two winners of the 2017 Faculty of Mathematics Three-Minute Thesis competition.

In this competition, students have three minutes and one slide to explain the significance of their thesis research to a non-specialist audience. Thomas' talk was titled "Predicting critical transitions in nature and society”. Thomas is the fourth Applied Math graduate student to make the finals in the last five years.

Thomas will co-represent the Faculty of Mathematics at the university-wide competition on March 23, 2017 from 3:00-4:30 in Modern Languages Theatre of the Arts. More details about the Three-Minute Thesis competition can be found at https://uwaterloo.ca/three-minute-thesis/ .
