Waterloo iGEM team wins recognitions at competition

The Waterloo International Genetically Engineered Machine competition (iGEM) team recently won Gold Standing and Best Model at the 2014 iGEM Giant Jamboree. 

The Waterloo team designed a synthetic bacterium called Staphylocide, which turns off the antibiotic resistance gene in a bacterium responsible for serious infections. The Waterloo iGEM team includes undergraduate students from the faculties of Mathematics, Engineering, and Science, including seven Applied Math and Mathematical Physics students: Rollen D’Souza, John Drake, Brandon Fung, Samantha Hirniak, James Hawley, and Matt Smart.
