Who do you think you are? Exploring Imposter Syndrome and Perfectionism from a Black perspectiveExport this event to calendar

Tuesday, January 30, 2024 — 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM EST

Imposter syndrome is feeling like you don’t deserve the level of success you have achieved. It can include feelings of self-doubt and a big pressure to not fail, so as not to be exposed as a ‘fraud’. Because of this fear of failure, it can often be linked to perfectionism. These feelings may be exacerbated by other factors for Black students, such as racism and other intersecting forms of oppression.

In this workshop, we will explore ways to overcome feelings of self-doubt and insecurity, and move toward truly believing that you deserve the success you have achieved and you are enough.

Facilitator

Adria Joel (she/her) - I am a Counsellor, Specializing in Black Student Support at UW. I am a mixed-race black woman with Trinidadian and Italian heritage and identify as bisexual. My lived experiences inform my work and I strive to work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, decolonial, trauma-informed, intersectional, person-centered approach. For over 10 years I have worked in the social work field in a variety of settings, including the university community and community-based organizations. I am passionate about collective healing and love facilitating groups. Outside of
work, I am a parent of two young kids who help me rediscover the awe in life daily. I also enjoy outdoor activities, board games, dancing and cozying up with a good book.
