At the end of February, I attended the MAA conference on research in undergraduate mathematics education. The action-packed three day conference contained many interesting innovations and ideas about how we can improve our student’s learning, motivation, and performance.
In this seminar, I will summarize some of the sessions that I attended. In particular, I will talk about:
- Inquiry-based learning
- Feedback on assessments
- Confidence vs content (Are we demotivating our students?)
- What makes a proof valid?
- Other ideas for improving student engagement and learning
