In this seminar, I will delve into the need for approaches in assigning duties between humans and machines, particularly in the context of autonomous systems. Despite significant improvements in system development capabilities, determining the optimal level of automation (LOA) and achieving adaptive automation remain challenging. The study, based on an extensive literature review, identifies and classifies the factors influencing LOA variability in autonomous systems. It proposes a model using feature diagrams to represent these factors and their relationships with LOAs.
Through illustrative examples, in this presentation, I will demonstrate how to apply these factors to facilitate human-systems interactions and advance research in designing adaptive autonomous systems. This work contributes to the state-of-the-art by bringing valuable insights and methodologies for advancing the field of autonomous systems and context-aware human-machine interactions.
