Several goal-oriented languages focus on modeling stakeholders’ objectives, interests or wishes. However, these languages can be used for various purposes (e.g., exploring system solutions, evaluating alternatives), and there are few guidelines on how to use these models downstream to the software requirements and design artifacts. In addition, little attention has been paid to the empirical evaluation of this kind of languages.
In this talk, I will introduce Value@GRL as a specialization of the Goal Requirements Language (GRL) to specify stakeholders’ goals when dealing with early requirements in the context of incremental software development. I will also show experimental results comparing Value@GRL and the i ∗ language with respect to the quality of goal models, the participants’ modeling time and productivity when creating the models, and their perceptions regarding ease of use and usefulness. Several insights emerged from the experimental study and opportunities for improving both languages will be outlined.
Bio: Silvia Abrahão is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain). Her main areas of expertise are quality assurance in model-driven engineering, empirical assessment of software modeling approaches and the integration of usability in software development.
She was visiting professor at the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (2010 and 2012), the Université catholique de Louvain (2007 and 2017), and the Ghent University (2004). She is currently leading the Spanish Network of Excellence on Software Quality and Sustainability, and the Adapt@Cloud project aimed at providing a user-centered framework for supporting the dynamic adaptation and evolution of cloud-based systems. She has (co)authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications. She is a member of the editorial board of the Software and System Modeling (SoSyM) journal and an Associate Editor of IEEE Software, responsible for Software Quality. She served as General Co-Chair of ACM/IEEE MODELS 2014.
