Frequently asked questions

For questions unrelated to the Technovation Girls Waterloo workshops, please read the Technovation Challenge FAQ.

How do participants register for Technovation Girls Waterloo events?

You must register separately for each Technovation Girls Waterloo event that you want to attend. To do this, please register on the Technovation Girls Waterloo registration page.

You are not required to attend any of the Waterloo workshops. However, attendance is highly recommended as it will provide girls and teams greater support in preparing for the Technovation Challenge. The workshops will also allow teams to meet other girls who are interested in technology and to meet mentors and role models.

Attendance at the Waterloo Regional Pitch Event is mandatory for any team that is interested in having its mobile app reviewed by a local panel of judges.

How do I form a team?

See if your friends or classmates would be interested in forming a team. If there is not enough interest from one school, students from different schools can join together as a team. You can also look for team members through the my.technovationchallenge.org platform or come to the Technovation Girls Waterloo Kick-off workshop.

How do I register as a mentor?

Mentors need to create a mentor account.

Once this is complete, you will have access to all of the online curriculum materials that the student participants will work through over the course of the program. Student teams will be able to see your mentor profile on the Technovation Challenge platform and may approach you and ask that you be their team’s mentor.

Will Technovation Waterloo assist in finding mentors if a team needs one?

Yes, the University of Waterloo will help to find a mentor if a team does not have one.

Does MIT App Inventor support iPhones?

MIT App Inventor only supports Android phones though they are working on supporting iPhone in the future. Thunkable supports both Android and iPhone phones but has less functionality.

Your team can submit an app developed using any tool.
