During his co-op term at Bloomberg Sports, a startup company located in New York City, Shi leveraged his knowledge of mathematics and computer science to help develop software that produces player statistics. This information allows coaches and scouts of Major League Baseball teams to create all-star line ups and helps with pre-game analysis.
After completing his co-op term with Bloomberg Sports, Shi went on to submit an Undergraduate Research Assistantship proposal with Professor Alejandro López-Ortiz in Machine Learning - an area of specialization of statistics crossed with computer science.
Combining computer science, statistics, and baseball was just the beginning. Having a passion for entrepreneurship, Shi jumped at the opportunity to work with in a small team and gained countless experience as part of a startup's journey.
"Henry’s strong theoretical and practical CS courses, lots of non-CS math in the curriculum, and the opportunity to do research work with faculty members--all came together to prepare him for really great performance on this work term," says David Taylor, Director of the School of Computer Science.
