The Cheriton School of Computer Science is named for David R. Cheriton, who earned his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in 1978. In 2005, Professor Cheriton made a transformational gift to the school that supports named chairs, faculty fellowships, and graduate scholarships.

Ian Goldberg appointed Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada
Professor Ian Goldberg has been named a 2026 Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the nation’s highest honour bestowed upon scholars, artists and scientists.
He is among 105 newly elected Fellows nationwide and one of seven Waterloo researchers elected this year in recognition of their exceptional scholarly, artistic and scientific achievements.

Professor Jimmy Lin has been named a 2026 Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the nation’s highest honour for scholars, artists and scientists.
He is among 105 individuals across Canada, and seven at the University of Waterloo, elected as RSC Fellows this year in recognition of their exceptional scholarly, scientific and artistic achievements.
Meet the 2026 Schulich Leaders at the Cheriton School of Computer Science
Four outstanding incoming undergrad students are joining the Cheriton School of Computer Science as Schulich Leaders, through the Schulich Leader Scholarships program, Canada’s most coveted undergraduate scholarship program for students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year’s cohort includes Business and Computer Science student Angela Ho, and Computer Science students Jerry Li, Bill Xu and Sophia Xu.
