Minyang
(Young)
Han
has
been
awarded
the
2016
Governor
General’s
Gold
Medal
for
Highest
Standing in
a

Han’s
thesis
(supervised
by
Khuzaima
Daudjee)
titled
On
Improving Distributed
Pregel-like
Graph
Processing
Systems
addresses
how
graph processing
systems
can
effectively
and
efficiently
perform
analytics over
large
graphs,
which
are
used
to
store
data
from
applications
in many
domains
such
as
social
networks,
biology,
logistics
and
semantic networks.
Through
three
papers
published
in
highly
selective
top-tier
venues, Han's
work
exposes
key
performance
issues
in
graph
processing
systems and
proposes
solutions
that
address
limitations
of
existing
graph processing
models.
His
research
also
delivers
solutions
designed
and built
into
the
Giraph
open
source
graph
processing
system.
"Han’s
attention
to
detail
in
his
research
is
remarkable.
His
analysis is
detailed
and
thorough,
exposing
key
underlying
principles
and
trends. His
writing
is
clear
and
the
context
he
provides
is
precise,"
