PhD '14 - Networks and distributed systems
I did my undergraduate studies in computer science engineering.
Why
did
you
choose
graduate
studies
and
why
did
you
choose
graduate
studies
in
CS?
I
was
interested
in
research
and
wanted
to
devote
my
time
more
on
learning
and
understanding
rather
than
being
directed
by
marketing
needs
of
the
industry.
Hence
I
took
up
research.
I
chose
graduate
studies
in
CS
since
I
am
a
CS
major.
What
was
your
research
area
and
why
did
you
choose
it?
My
research
area
was
networks
and
distributed
systems.
My
research
was
in
kernel
mechanisms
for
multicore
systems.
I
chose
my
research
in
systems
because
it
was
more
implementation-oriented
and
involved
a
lot
of
programming.
Also
the
work
was
closely
tied
to
the
architecture
of
the
current
machines
which
I
found
interesting.
It
widened
my
knowledge
and
gave
me
expertise
in
both
hardware
and
system
software
domains.
Who
was
your
supervisor
and
why
did
you
choose
to
work
with
him/her?
I
worked
with
Dr.
Martin
Karsten.
As
it
goes
without
saying,
since
our
research
interests
coincided,
I
decided
to
pursue
my
master's
working
alongside
him.
He
was
both
approachable
and
resourceful.
He
spent
time
with
his
students
whenever
they
needed
help
which
was
great
given
his
busy
schedule.
I
was
very
happy
to
be
at
Waterloo
and
happier
to
have
worked
with
Dr.
Karsten.
Why
did
you
choose
Waterloo
for
graduate
studies?
If
you
did
your
undergraduate
at
Waterloo,
why
did
you
stay?
I
did
my
undergraduate
studies
in
India.
I
chose
Waterloo
for
graduate
studies
because
Waterloo
is
well-known
for
math
and
computer
science
and
they
offered
a
significant
amount
of
choice.
The
people
within
the
Faculty
of
Math
and
its
facilities
have
made
Waterloo
one
of
the
most
sought
after
destinations
for
computer
science
and
math
in
Canada.
