PhD - Systems and networking

Was your undergraduate in CS? If not, what did you study?
I hold a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo in Honours Computer Science and Honours Combinatorics and Optimization.

Why did you choose graduate studies and why did you choose graduate studies in CS?
I chose to do graduate studies in computer science because I greatly enjoy learning and the academic environment.

What is your research area and why did you choose it?
In the first term of my master's degree, I took the Cloud Computing and Management course. I found the material to be interesting and as a result, I chose systems and networking as my research area.

Who is your supervisor and why did you choose to work with him/her?
My supervisor is Professor Bernard Wong. I had taken Professor Wong's Cloud Computing and Management course and a project course (Transactions in the Cloud). I greatly enjoyed the content of both courses and working with Professor Wong, so I feel very privileged to be under his supervision.

Why did you choose Waterloo for graduate studies? If you did your undergraduate at Waterloo, why did you stay?
I chose Waterloo for my graduate studies since I had an extremely positive experience at the undergraduate level. I found the curriculum to be challenging and intellectually stimulating. Moreover, the instructors I had at the undergraduate level were engaging, and I really enjoyed the courses they offered.
