The Pay Equity Act (the “Act”) requires the University to follow compensation practices that ensure employees in female job classes are paid at least as much as employees in male job classes of comparable value. The University issued its first plans for compliance on January 1, 1990 and has been committed to meeting pay equity requirements since the Act’s inception.
In 2017, Ontario’s Pay Equity Office notified the University that it would be reviewing our compensation practices for compliance with the Act, through their Monitoring Program. Their review recently concluded and we’re pleased to inform the community that the University was found to be compliant with the Act over the 2016-2018 review period.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lee Hornberger, Director, Total Compensation or Julie Lowe, Job Evaluation Specialist Team Lead.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
