HR Foundations for Managers

HR Foundations for Managers are a series of learning modules intended to build awareness and a deeper understanding of how to navigate Human Resources-related processes, procedures, and policies at the University of Waterloo.

These modules are designed to provide insight and guidance, showcasing the information and support available for the HR processes managers are accountable for in support of their teams.

Presented by Human Resources and Organizational and Human Development, HR Foundations for Managers is an interactive, learning and development experience in three parts:

These modules will be offered each term - dates will be added on a rolling basis.

HR Foundations for Managers strives to enable managers to:

  • Be able to address HR matters proactively and responsibly
  • Be equipped with knowledge and information to manage HR-related topics with your team
  • Gain a management perspective on University of Waterloo policies and procedures
  • Be aware of the resources and tools available to support you
  • Have confidence as you support your people, departmental interests, and organizational goals

Manager Onboarding Learning Pathway

In addition to participating in HR Foundations for Managers, we encourage all new managers to participate in the other components of the Manager Onboarding learning opportunities.

Manager Onboarding Learning Opportunities

  • Mandatory Supervisor Orientation (Online - Safety Office) 
  • Staff Orientation – if you’re new to the University of Waterloo, join your peers to enhance your knowledge of the University’s history, culture, structure, reach and strategic priorities.
  • People managers are strongly encouraged to join a Leading Performance Conversations workshop, offered annually, in proximity to performance appraisal season (November-February, annually)
