Employee Learning & Development at Waterloo

The University of Waterloo recognizes the benefits of lifelong learning and employee growth and development to invest in our talent and strengthen our communities.

The Organizational and Human Development (OHD) team supports employee development through the design and delivery of comprehensive learning and professional development workshops, programs, learning events for employees. Our Learning and Development Specialists offer consultative services to improve individual, team, and unit excellence. We also organize the annual Waterloo Staff Conference and the Keeping Well at Work event. These learning events bring engaging and informative keynotes to the campus and provide multiple in-house workshops, many developed by colleagues from across the University.

Did you know? University of Waterloo employees have a minimum 5 days/35 hours of training and development under Policy 18, section Three. Employees are highly recommended to explore this policy.

Starting this Fall, OHD is launching new themed learning paths. Our focus has been to reimagine and develop our workshops and partnered learning opportunities centred around several skill areas essential to the ongoing success of our employees. The themed learning paths make it possible for you to choose your own learning journey to enhance and advance your career at the University of Waterloo. Our goal is to create learning options  that support the development of your talents and meet your individual needs and interests.

OHD is excited to offer these learning and development opportunities and welcome staff to choose their path or select any combination of offerings from across the themes to design your own development journey.

We offer customized learning and services to support departmental and organizational needs.

We organize two large annual learning and development events, working with University partners to develop workshops for your professional and personal development.
