Abstract: By the late 20th century, the “Big Five” model of personality structure was widely adopted, but more recent research has indicated that personality variation is better summarized by the six HEXACO dimensions: Honesty-Humility (H), Emotionality (E), Extraversion (X), Agreeableness (A), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to Experience (O). In this talk I review these findings and briefly consider why these happen to be the major dimensions of personality. I then discuss some recent lines of research based on this HEXACO personality model. (1) Personality perceptions between friends or romantic partners, including agreement about each other’s personalities as well as similarity and perceptions of similarity. (2) Age-related trends in personality trait levels and implications for the “age-crime curve”. (3) Personality in relation to behaviour in laboratory tasks assessing cheating, fairness, and (non-) retaliation.
