"Social Anxiety Disorder and the Relational Self"
Dr. Lynn Alden is interested in extending concepts from relational science to clinical disorders. A major component of her work is to examine various models of self in the context of social anxiety disorder. Her current research analyzes how safety-seeking behaviors affect the anxious individual’s sense of self and social relatedness. Ultimately her goal is to use these findings to develop novel treatment strategies for anxiety disorders.
Lynn Alden is Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and completed her clinical residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Alden’s research addresses the interplay between cognitive and interpersonal processes in the anxiety disorders. She has published widely on topics related to social anxiety disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. Her work is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
