Dr. Geoff Fong appeared on The National to discuss the smoking epidemic in China. Over 300 million people smoke in China (about 45 million lung cancer cases in the making!) and tobacco control efforts are extremely weak because the Chinese National Tobacco Company (which produces 98% of the cigarettes consumed in China) is entirely owned by the Chinese government. For a decade, the ITC Project has documented the poor effectiveness of tobacco control policies in China, and they have worked with the China CDC, WHO, and key NGOs to push for stronger policies. Dr. Fong's interview starts around the 32 minute mark in the linked clip.
