About the Arts Ambassador Team

The Arts Ambassador Team is a group of trained and highly motivated undergraduate student volunteers who represent the Faculty of Arts for recruitment events and engagement initiatives. The team members will be available to prospective students to provide them with personal, engaging, informational, and positive connections to their program(s) of interest, the Faculty of Arts, and the University of Waterloo.

The Arts Ambassador team is supported by and accountable to the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator.

As an Arts Ambassador, you will…

  • Gain valuable leadership experience
  • Represent your program and major
  • Share your experience as an Arts student
  • Be the “face” of the Faculty of Arts and your program for prospective students and their parents/ guardians
  • Act as a peer mentor to current Arts students at Arts Undergraduate Office events (Stress Busters, course selection, Resource Fair etc.)
  • Keep track of your connections with prospective students and provide that information to the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator for assessment purposes.
  • Be a positive role model, representing the high-quality leaders that Waterloo Arts attracts
  • Work with other highly motivated Arts students and build meaningful friendships
  • Participate in training at the beginning of each term
  • Commit to in-person team meetings/training (Once a month on average) and 3 hours of online training 
  • Have fun connecting with students – being honest and sharing your experiences

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in on-and off-campus recruitment events as a volunteer, presenter, or student panel member
  • Running arts tours for prospective students. You will be scheduled for at least one Arts Tour per term. A schedule will be created at the beginning of each term. Conflicts (i.e., classes, part-time jobs, etc.) will be considered

  • Availability for the large recruitment event dates like open houses and university fairs.
  • Being available to prospective students for a few hours throughout the term – connecting with them via email, Discord chats and other social media, providing them with short tours, allowing them to shadow you on a school day.
  • Assisting with additional recruitment initiatives such as the note-writing campaigns (Warm Fuzzies), Instagram takeovers, monitor Discord for questions etc.
  • Available to assist with 2-4 additional events in the Engagement portfolio (stress buster, resource fair, course selection events, etc.) and Alumni Portfolios

Qualifications

  • Volunteer commitment for at least one term
  • 2A student (in Fall 2024) or higher with good or higher academic standing in your program
  • Friendly with a helpful attitude and willingness to take initiative
  • Comfortable with approaching prospective students and their families at in-person events and answering any question or concerns they have
  • Passionate about the Faculty of Arts at Waterloo and helping and supporting current students
  • Team player
  • An understanding of the responsibility of the role you are undertaking (for example: considering your online persona and what it says about you) 
  • To be considered for Arts Ambassador role, you must be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of your degree. Additionally, you should not have serious incidents or allegations of misconduct as assessed by your Associate Dean.
    • Note that minor infractions will not automatically exclude a candidate from consideration. Each candidate is assessed on an individual basis.
