While postsecondary education provides great opportunities, affordability can be a challenge for many students. Studies have shown that UWaterloo students who live on campus achieve higher first-year grade point averages and rates of retention and graduation than their off-campus peers (Academica Group, 2016). Students also want to live in residence to meet friends and create a strong community for themselves. For these reasons, we are committed to ensuring that students who want to live on campus can do so.
When reviewing funding sources, make sure to:
-
Apply for grants, bursaries, scholarships, and loans that also include living expenses such as housing/accommodation.
-
Note eligibility criteria and deadlines for different financial aid opportunities.
-
Keep an eye out for externally-funded scholarships or grants that can support your living expenses.

When planning for the financial costs of living on campus, here are some resources that can help cover some of your residence fees.
1) Funding sources for undergraduate students
2) Funding sources for graduate students
3) Compare our residence buildings and consider our most economical housing options:
- For traditional-style residences where the purchase of a meal plan is required, Village 1 and Ron Eydt Village double rooms are the most affordable options.
- For suite-style residences where meal plans are optional, UW Place double rooms and Columbia Lake Village South single rooms are the most affordable options.
