On November 12, 2022, the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute with industry host Musashi AI held a data challenge focused on computer vision open to all Waterloo students.

In teams of three to four, students competed to solve a specific problem in artificial intelligence and computer vision — to determine algorithmically the number of people in six specific locations of a factory floor using frames in a video clip.

Teams were assessed on the accuracy of their solution as well as a pitch presentation to judges in which members explained their contributions to the solution, the technical concepts they used, the challenges they faced and how they resolved them.

Winning teams

In first place and receiving a $1,500 cash prize was Lestr.ai, composed of Ankur Phadke (BCS Data Science undergrad), and Shriram Holla, Raghav Saboo and Kartikey Sinha (Computer Science undergrads).
