About the Arts Ambassador Team
The Arts Ambassador Team is a group of trained and highly motivated undergraduate student volunteers who represent the Faculty of Arts for recruitment events and engagement initiatives. The team members will be available to prospective students to provide them with personal, engaging, informational, and positive connections to their program(s) of interest, the Faculty of Arts, and the University of Waterloo.
The Arts Ambassador team is supported by and accountable to the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator.
As an Arts Ambassador, you will…
- Gain valuable leadership experience
- Represent your program and major
- Share your experience as an Arts student
- Be the “face” of the Faculty of Arts and your program for prospective students and their parents/ guardians by:
- Participating in on-and off-campus recruitment events as a lead volunteer, tour guide, presenter, or student panel member (for example: Ontario Universities’ Fair, Fall Open House, March Break (Virtual) Open House, and You @ Waterloo Day); Due to the current situation, many of the fall events and activities may be happening via a virtual environment.
- Being available to prospective students for a few hours throughout the term – connecting with them via email, Discord chats and other social media, providing them with short tours, allowing them to shadow you on a school day; Please be advised tours and shadowing activities will resume once campus activities are allowed. Email communication and virtual meetings/chats will take place until on-campus activities can resume.
- Assisting with additional recruitment initiatives such as the student-to-applicant calling campaign, note-writing campaigns, Instagram takeovers, monitor Discord for questions etc.
- Keep track of your connections with prospective students and provide that information to the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator for assessment purposes.
- Be a positive role model, representing the high-quality leaders that Waterloo Arts attracts
- Work with other highly motivated Arts student and build meaningful friendships
- Participate in training at the beginning of each term
- Commit to in-person or online team meetings/training (1-2 times a month on average) and 3 hours of online training
- Have fun connecting with students – being honest and sharing your experiences
Qualifications
- 2A student or higher with good or higher academic standing in your program
- Friendly with a helpful attitude and willingness to take initiative
- Have a stable internet connection with camera and audio accessibility
- Team player
- Passionate about Arts at Waterloo
- An understanding of the responsibility of the role you are undertaking (for example: considering your online persona and what it says about you)
- Volunteer commitment of at least one term
- Availability for the large recruitment event dates, in the terms for which you are hired. This will likely include 2-3 weekend dates within the term you volunteer. Event dates are TBA at this time.
- Available to assist with 2-4 additional events in the Engagement (Destress events, course selection events, etc.) and Alumni Portfolios
- These dates will be announced at the beginning of term
- To be considered for Arts Ambassador role, you must be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of your degree. Additionally, you should not have serious incidents or allegations of misconduct as assessed by your Associate Dean.
- Note that minor infractions will not automatically exclude a candidate from consideration. Each candidate is assessed on an individual basis

- If you cannot make the commitment for the entire term and would still like to volunteer, you may sign up as a general volunteer for Fall Open House, March Break Open House, and You @Waterloo Day.
