Share a Message with the Class of 2026

Members of the Waterloo Arts community (alumni, faculty, and staff) play an important role in shaping the experiences that bring students to this moment.

We invite you to write a short message for the Class of 2026 as they prepare to graduate and begin their next chapter as part of the Waterloo alumni community. Your words of encouragement, reflection, or perspective—whether handwritten or typed—will help mark this milestone and remind graduates that they are supported by a community that cares about their growth and success.

Tips for writing your message

  • Keep messages short, encouraging, and general in nature, and feel free to include a personal story, a note of encouragement, or a combination of both.
  • Feel free to address your message to “Class of 2026,” “2026 Graduate,” “2026 Grad,” “Soon‑to‑be fellow Arts alum,” or “Arts alum‑to‑be.”
  • Please avoid language that adds pressure or assumes specific outcomes.
  • You may submit a photo of a handwritten message or typed text.

Examples

A few examples to help spark ideas. Messages don’t need to be long or polished — just genuine and supportive.

  • Welcome to the Waterloo Arts alumni community. This milestone reflects your hard work, curiosity, and perseverance. Wherever your path leads, know that a community is cheering you on.
  • Your time as a student may be ending, but your connection to Waterloo will continue in new ways. Carry what you’ve learned with confidence and stay open to what comes next.
  • As an Arts graduate, you bring perspective, creativity, and adaptability into every space you enter. These are strengths that will serve you well far beyond campus.
  • Graduation is both a moment to reflect and a beginning. Take pride in how far you’ve come and trust the foundation you’ve built at Waterloo.
  • It’s been a privilege to be part of your journey. Wishing you continued curiosity, learning, and growth in the years ahead.

How to Take a Photo or Scan of a Handwritten Message

  • Write clearly in black or blue ink: A felt‑tip pen or marker works best for strong contrast.
  • Use plain white paper: No lines, dots, grids, or textures.
  • Leave space around the edges: Keep a clean border so nothing is cut off.
  • Sign your name and degree: Include your full name and degree (e.g., BA ’06, Economics).
  • Submit your message using one of the following options:
    • Take a clear, well‑lit photo: (Lay the paper flat, avoid shadows, and photograph it straight from above.)
    • Scan using a copier or scanner

Images of scanned messages - Don'ts. Images on dotted and lined paper, and image of message cut off with poor lighting.
