Teaching Critical Engagement with AI  - In Person (CTE7560)

Thursday, February 26, 2026 10:30 am - 12:00 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Location: In-person, MC 2036

Facilitators: Kristin Brown and David Thiessen

CTE acknowledges the complexity of GenAI, including its social, ethical, and pedagogical dimensions, as well as the potential benefits and challenges it poses within educational contexts. This workshop is designed to provide an opportunity to learn about the tools available and to better equip you to make an informed decision about their use.

Description

Conversations about the role and impact of AI in education are multi-layered, contentious, and evolving. The range of AI adoption and integration is vast among instructors and students, and therefore it is necessary to create space within classes to critically engage with AI, while limiting additional strain on individual instructors. Using University of Saskatchewan’s AI Literacy Framework as a foundation, this workshop presents five key dimensions of AI literacy (understanding AI and data; critical thinking and judgment; ethical and responsible use; human-centricity, relationality, and creativity; and domain expertise). As a practical component, participants will share and reflect on examples specific to their teaching context.

Note: This workshop provides opportunities for small group and large group discussions. Participants are welcome to participate by listening, thinking about examples, and/or contributing to conversations throughout.
