CTE provides an array of programs and services for faculty and staff.
For guidance on a particular issue, we offer one-on-one consultations: in fact, in the 2015-2016 fiscal year we provided more than 5000 consultations to nearly 1200 instructors.
Additionally, almost every week of every term, we deliver workshops and other sessions on topics pertaining to classroom dynamics, delivery skills, course design, blended learning, new educational technologies, ePortfolios, and more; in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, we delivered 226 workshops to over 1000 unique instructors, graduate students, and staff members. Most of these workshops are an hour or two in length, but others are multi-day events such as the Instructional Skills Workshop or the Teaching Excellence Academy.
Other CTE events provide opportunities for UWaterloo instructors to share their teaching expertise with each other. The Teaching Squares program, for example, facilitates instructors visiting each other's classrooms. The Open Classroom Series also allows instructors an opportunity to observe a colleague's teaching practice. Additionally, CTE coordinates various theme-based Faculty Learning Communities, such as the LEARN Instructor User Group, the ePortfolio Users' Group, and the Really Large Classes Learning Community.
For departments and programs, we provide assistance in undertaking curriculum renewal. To support research and teaching enhancement, we administer a grant program, and to celebrate teaching excellence we coordinate a number of teaching awards.
