Tuesday, March 24, 2026 10:00 am - 11:30 am EDT (GMT -04:00)

Location: In-person, MC 2036

Facilitators: Jason Thompson

Description

GenAI tools are transforming education by providing new ways to support, individualize, and deepen student learning. But, to unlock their full potential, educators and students must learn to prompt effectively.

This interactive workshop introduces participants to the PLOC framework – Persona, Level, Output, and Context – a structured, low barrier-to-entry approach to crafting prompts that yields high-quality, educationally valuable responses from GenAI tools. Drawing on insights from Mollick & Mollick (2023), we will explore how AI can act as several different personas and how intentional prompting can foster critical thinking, creativity, and engagement across disciplines. Whether you're new to AI tools or looking to refine your approach, this workshop will equip you with practical approaches and prompts to make GenAI a meaningful part of your teaching and your students' learning.

This workshop will follow a 60+30 format (60 minutes interactive presentation followed by 30 minutes of structured AI exploration and discussion). To fully engage in the hands-on activities, please bring your laptop. Bring a written response to an assignment question, essay, or project if you are comfortable inputting it into AI tools.

This workshop description was edited and rephrased with the assistance of AI.
