Giana Tomas (she/her) is a doctoral candidate from the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. She studies the migration, resettlement, and ‘home’-making journeys of new arrivants to Canada; specifically, the experiences of new arrivants from the Philippines. Fueled by her passion for social justice, background in student advocacy, and lived experience, she centres cultivating meaningful spaces of care, with, and from, learners, in her teaching approaches. Giana completed CTE’s Fundamentals of University Teaching Program, Certificate for University Teaching Program, and New Instructor Foundations Program, and is even more excited to further develop her teaching, and to support fellow grad students, post-docs, and instructors!
