Kaylee Biggart

Kaylee Biggart (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, studying experimental condensed matter physics with a focus on exotic quantum materials. She completed the Fundamentals of University Teaching program in 2024, and is currently pursuing the Certificate in University Teaching. She's TA'd several courses in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, but found her assignments to first year physics labs particularly interesting and rewarding.

Kaylee strives to prompt learners to think about their learning in order to optimize their learning strategies - in other words, she encourages learners to engage in metacognitive practices. She's a patient teacher that places a high value on creating and fostering a safe learning environment where learners can make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes, without their confidence taking a hit. She takes a "show rather than tell" approach to teaching, where learners are encouraged to engage in participatory learning which results in deeper learning. She's hopeful that in the role of TA Workshop Facilitator, she can encourage her TA peers to utilize teaching practices that support deep learning.
