As an Educational Developer, Indigenous Knowledges, Naomi provides support related to Indigenization, with current projects in the Faculty of Mathematics and the Department of Knowledge Integration. Her work thus far has focused on relationship-building and the development of workshops that bridge Indigenous and Western approaches.
Naomi is in her early stages of a PhD in Systems Design Engineering here at the University of Waterloo, with her research focused on bridging Indigenous and Western Ways of Knowing in university-level STEM fields. She also has a Master's degree in Systems Design Engineering - Aeronautics and a Bachelor's degree in Systems Design Engineering, both from the University of Waterloo.
As a Métis woman who grew up outside of the Georgian Bay Métis Community (her family's hometown), Naomi brings to her work her experiences growing up immersed in her Dutch settler heritage alongside her Métis heritage, as well as experiences throughout her continuing journey of discovering her identity.
