Call for Participants with Study Details
Researchers from the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Teaching Excellence, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Science invite you to participate in a research project to determine the needs for professional development and support offered for tenure-track and teaching stream faculty members, and academic support unit staff members who are engaging in and conducting Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. This study has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Board.
The aim of this study is to replicate a study on SoTL research conducted by Wuetherick et al., (2016) on the Landscape of SoTL research at the University of Saskatchewan. In order to effectively understand the current state of UWaterloo members engaging in SoTL research, we will replicate the 2012 study. The results will inform and assist with development of professional development and research support for UWaterloo faculty members and instructors who wish to engage in SoTL research.
Participation in this study in voluntary. If you agree to participate, we will be asking you to participate in an online survey which should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. There are no anticipated risks related to this research. The researchers will not have access to participants’ names, or email addresses at any point during data collection. A co-op student at the Centre for Teaching Excellence will have access to this information from the distribution list. A co-op student acts as a neutral third party, as they do not hold a working relationship with survey participants. The survey instrument will not collect additional identifying information. IP addresses will be collected to avoid participants inadvertently doing the survey more than once, but Qualtrics does not pass this information onto the researcher.
You may decline answering any questions you feel you do not wish to answer. When results are reported, your identity will be confidential. Your name will not be identified with the answers you offer in this survey. The information collected from this survey will be kept for a period of at least seven years as encrypted files on the University of Waterloo’s SharePoint cloud.
There is no compensation for participating in this study. However, your participation will be a valuable addition to helping us develop SoTL supports for those who want to engage in SoTL research at the University of Waterloo and across Canada.
If you are interested, complete the SoTL survey at your earliest convenience.
