HBC Industry Days offer unique networking opportunities to HRM students

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Students applied to participate in this new and unique opportunity earlier in the term. The small group of students accepted spent the day learning about the different aspects of the HR field, got to network and job shadow senior staff at HBC.

Students who participated in the networking event found direct value in seeing "what was learned in class being applied to the real world." Other student feedback noted the importance of seeing examples of both general HR focuses within each HBC retail store and the HR specialists who support the entire company. One student even mentioned that she has asked her current employer if she could learn more about recruitment processes at her retail job, thanks to her experience at HBC.

This event will hopefully be the first of an annual opportunity for HRM students. Rachel Jenson and Joan Lam from Co-operative Education and Natalie Mathieson from EDGE helped to make it happen, co-ordinating between the HRM department and HBC. These collaborators received great feedback from those involved and hope to continue this partnership for experiential learning.
