Entrance scholarships are for students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies and who are beginning post-secondary studies for the first time in September 2017.

Available to students in all programs (no application required)

President’s Scholarship of Distinction

$2,000 Entrance Scholarship;

$1,500 International Experience Award*  or;

$1,500 Research Award*, or both

Open to students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies at Waterloo who are beginning post-secondary studies for the first time in fall 2017.

*Note: The International Experience Award and/or Research Award are available in your upper years if you choose to claim them and if you complete your first year with at least an 80% average. 

President’s Scholarship $2,000 Entrance Scholarship

Open to students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies at Waterloo who are beginning post-secondary studies for the first time in fall 2017.

Early May admission average of 90% to 94.9%

Merit Scholarship $1,000 Entrance Scholarship

Open to students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies at Waterloo who are beginning post-secondary studies for the first time in fall 2017.

HeForShe IMPACT Scholarship

6 renewable scholarships valued at up to $12,000 over four years

Open to outstanding female students applying to science, technology, engineering, and math programs in which females are underrepresented.

Academic performance (minimum 80% admission average)

Must meet any other entrance scholarship criteria as set out by each faculty

Open to Shad Valley alumni who are entering first year of a program in any Faculty.

An application is required for the following scholarships

  Value  Criteria
Schulich Leader Scholarship

2-4 awards at the University of Waterloo:

1-2 scholarships of $80,000 over 8 academic terms for a student in Science, Technology, or Mathematics.

1-2 scholarships of $100,000 over 8 academic terms for a student in Engineering.

Open to students applying to programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  

Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

Candidates must possess at least 2 of the following 3 attributes:

  1. Exceptionally high academic grades
  2. Demonstrated leadership in school life and community life, or provided evidence of entrepreneurial talent
  3. Financial need

Students must be nominated by their high school or CEGEP in order to be considered.

Speak to your high school administration to learn how you can become the Schulich Leader Nominee for your school.

The high school nomination deadline is February 1, 2017.

Deer Ridge Entrance Award 1 or 2 awards (valued up to $3,000) for 1 year
  • Open to students from a Region of Waterloo high school
  • Academic performance
  • Financial need
  • Participation in extra-curricular activities

Hong Kong Alumni Association Entrance Award 1 scholarship of $1,200
  • Open to students who reside in or who previously resided in Hong Kong
  • Academic performance
  • Community involvement

China Hong Kong Entrance Scholarship 2 scholarships of $2,000 each
  • Open to students who reside in or who previously resided in Hong Kong or mainland China

Serbian Education Fund Entrance Award 1 scholarship of $1,000
  • Open to students entering a first-year program at Waterloo
  • Preference to students who can demonstrate a significant cultural contribution to the Serbian community

Shad Valley Alumni Entrance Scholarships Several valued at $1,000 - $5,000 for 1 year
  • Open to Shad Valley alumni who are entering first year of a program in any Faculty.

Project Hero Award

Covers value of full-time tuition and compulsory fees for up to 8 academic terms. Value of on-campus residence fees and the equivalent of a regular or average meal plan for the first year of study (2 terms) are also included.
  • For dependants of Canadian military personnel deceased while serving on an active mission
  • Under 26 years of age
  • Enrolling as a full-time undergraduate student at Waterloo, in a program of study eligible for funding by the province of Ontario
