Tips on which residences to visit during an open house
There can be lots to do during an open house, and there may not be time to visit each of our residences.
So which residences should you visit? Our residence comparison chart provides an overview of the options. And here are some tips to help you decide which ones to visit.
What size of residence community are you looking for?
- The four University Colleges provide the smallest communities (140 to 300 students in each residence).
- The five Campus Housing residences are larger communities of 320 to 1,400 students. However, each residence floor provides a smaller community within the larger community.
How important is location?
All of our residences are located on campus. Our residence comparison chart shows estimated walking times to the Student Life Centre.
Are there certain residences for different programs?
No. You'll find students from a wide variety of programs in each of our residences.
What's your preference for a meal plan?
- If you prefer to make all or most of your meals, check out the suite-style residences for Campus Housing.
- If you'd like a meal plan, you can enjoy all-you-care-to-eat dining at each University College. In Campus Housing traditional-style residences, meal plans are a declining balance that can be used at eateries across campus.
Would you prefer a single room or double?
- Residences with primarily single rooms include MKV, V1, and UWP for Campus Housing.
- St. Jerome’s and Renison have both single and double rooms.
- United mainly offers double rooms for first-year students.
- Conrad Grebel is all double rooms.
- Note: single rooms are not guaranteed and there is typically higher demand than availability.
Want to live with students with similar interests or program?
Living Learning Communities (LLC) allow you to live in residence with other students who share an academic program or other interest with you.Each community offers programming and an upper-year mentor who offers leadership and support. If you're interested in a LLC for your program, you may want to visit the relevant residence(s).
