For the third year in a row, the University of Waterloo was recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers (2019) and Waterloo Area's Top Employers (2019). The recipients of the national annual award were announced in The Globe and Mail on November 9th. The University was recognized for striving to be not only one of the most innovative universities in the world, but also one of the most employee-focused.
"The most important thing for me is that the people who work here are feeling the commitment we've made to enhancing their careers and providing supports around them," said Marilyn Thompson, Associate Provost, Human Resources.
There are a number of employee-centred initiatives and values at Waterloo which allowed us to be included among the 2019 Canada Top 100 Employers, including:
- A broad charitable focus and the launch of our "Volunteer Centre" which helps engage students and employees with important causes
- Our encouragement of employee development through the Organizational and Human Development Office
- Our robust benefit, pension and retirement planning and assistance that extends to retirees through the Retiree Association
