Janie is the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Hamilton and Brantford as well as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor. Janie’s career in pharmacy practice spans 21 years. She began as a clinical hospital pharmacist, after which she entered community pharmacy practice. She currently practices as a primary care clinical consulting pharmacist.

In community practice, Janie works with diabetic, cardiac, psychiatric and geriatric patients. Home visits are scheduled for homebound patients and the pharmacy team, of which she is a member, liaises with hospice palliative care organizations and support homes. At the Community Health Centre, Janie meets directly with patients, identifying and resolving drug-related issues and integrating efforts with the healthcare team.

Janie also works with the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant CCAC in a home-visiting pharmacy program to help prevent high-risk patients from being readmitted to hospital after having been discharged home. This is an exciting evolution to formally include the pharmacist on the provincial home care teams.

Janie’s professional degrees include RPh and BScPhm. She has also completed a post-graduate hospital pharmacy residency (ACPR) and Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) credentialing through the Canadian Diabetic Association. She has successfully completed numerous certificate courses through the University of Waterloo, University of Toronto and the Ontario Pharmacists Association.

Janie lectures and mentors students at Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy as well as at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. In May 2014, she became the School's Regional Clinical Coordinator for Hamilton and Brantford, a position where she combines her accomplished and diverse career in pharmacy practice with experiences in academia.

Douglas Brown graduated from the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy in 1989, completing his internship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Following his passion for community practice, he transitioned to primary care pharmacy and worked with an independent pharmacy, followed by a group practice (Big V Pharmacies) before realizing his dream to be a pharmacist/owner.

Douglas has been working for over 20 years in Port Perry, developing a professional practice that is both patient-centric and collaborative. With a focus on establishing strong pharmacist–patient relationships and working closely with physicians and other practitioners, he has established his pharmacy as a primary care resource and has worked tirelessly to be a champion of patient care for more than two decades.

Douglas has also mentored pharmacy students through the U of T Faculty of Pharmacy SPEP program and with the SPT program through the Ontario College of Pharmacists. His collaboration with his sister — a local physician — has produced an inter-professional education program that sees medical students and residents train with a pharmacist as well as pharmacy students and interns training with a physician. This early exposure to collaboration has greatly improved the professional working relationships of both pharmacists and physicians locally and across the province.

Douglas believes deeply in the maintenance of a strong community and profession. He has received the Mortar and Pestle award from the Ontario Pharmacists Association for contributions to healthcare. He hopes to bring his love of the pharmacy profession and passion for helping patients to University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy students.

Douglas is honoured to join the School of Pharmacy as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor and the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Durham Region and Peterborough.

Claude is a member of the School of Pharmacy’s original Vanguard Class and the student societies’ inaugural President. Following graduation Claude joined Health Sciences North specializing in infectious diseases, critical care and medicine while maintaining a presence in community pharmacy.

At Health Sciences North he developed an advanced practice role alongside intensivists in the intensive care unit and was pharmacy lead in the creation of the country’s first Virtual Critical Care program, winner of the of the 2015 Minister’s Medal Honouring Excellence in Health Quality and Safety. His interests in research and antimicrobials converged during Sciences North’s participation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) in Intensive Care Units ARTIC Project. While having previously completed a four year degree in Biomedical Sciences at Laurentian University, Claude completed Waterloo’s PharmD bridging program in 2017 and has recently accepted a new position within the hospital’s integrated pain and HAVEN programs.

As Regional Clinical Coordinator Claude looks forward to working with regional preceptors to offer students’ unique and exciting practice experiences that will shape their development as tomorrow’s pharmaceutical care practitioners.

Michael Collins is a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist and the Pharmacist Hospital Residency Program co-ordinator at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) in Kitchener, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy in 2011 (“the Vanguard class”) with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He then went on to complete a Pharmacy Residency at Hamilton Health Sciences in 2012. From there, Michael began working as a Clinical Pharmacist in the Internal Medicine and Oncology programs at Grand River Hospital. He completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2015 and has since worked as an Oncology Pharmacist at GRRCC/GRH. Prior to pharmacy, Michael completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Biomedical Technology from the University of Calgary.

Shortly after starting at GRH, Michael took over the hospital’s pharmacy student coordinator position where he was responsible for coordinating the pharmacy students on clinical rotations and co-op placements. He now helps coordinate 40-50 pharmacy student placements each year at GRH, many of which he precepts/supervises himself. Michael has a passion for experiential learning that was not only developed through his own education but also through his experiences as a preceptor and student mentor. He looks forward to taking his experience beyond the walls of the hospital to help support his greater community of practice as the Kitchener-Waterloo Regional Clinical Coordinator.

Donnie co-owns Boggio & Edwards IDA, a specialty compounding pharmacy in Ridgeway, Ontario. His focus is on pain management, women’s health and addiction services. He has been appointed to the Narcotics Monitoring Working Group by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to provide advice on managing and evaluating data created by the Narcotics Monitoring System.

Previously, Donnie was interim CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists Association, representing the professional views of over 10,000 pharmacists. He increased OPA’s presence among government and stakeholders and promoted the role of the pharmacist as a provider of frontline healthcare. He assumed this role after serving as OPA’s Chair of the Board from May 2006 to June 2007.

Donnie served as Chair of the Board during a pivotal time for OPA and the profession. He advanced the mandate and efforts of the Board on behalf of its membership and expanded OPA’s scope. His crucial role in the discussions around the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act helped lead to the development of the MedsCheck program, the first ever professional services program for the public.

Donnie had been actively involved with OPA for the past 10 years. He has acted as Chair of OPA’s External Relations Committee, and served on various other committees. He was an active voice for the Ontario Community Pharmacies Coalition and represented the voice of community pharmacies in Ministry discussions.

Donnie is a sought-after speaker who has made a number of presentations on issues affecting pharmacists, and on collaborative healthcare and government policy. He increased the profile of pharmacists by conducting hundreds of media interviews on topics such as the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act, the role of the pharmacist, health promotion, prescription fraud, family health teams and drugs of addiction.

In addition, Donnie initiated OPA’s Drugs of Addiction strategy. He is a noted expert on drugs of addiction and played a key role in implementing a school-based education program. He has travelled across Canada, educating thousands of students, teachers and parents about substance use, abuse, addiction and dependence and the emerging trends and implications of crystal methamphetamine. Donnie was also a member of the Provincial Methadone Maintenance Task Force. For the past two decades, Donnie has worked in community pharmacy. He has developed a unique practice, providing his patients with innovative services and seminars on multiple health-related issues. Donnie has been involved in United Way, AIDS Niagara and other local associations. He has published several education articles on diabetes, hypertension, pain management and addiction in various medical and pharmaceutical journals.

Donnie graduated from the University of Toronto in 1988 with a degree in pharmacy. He lives with his wife and their three children in Port Colborne. In his spare time, he coaches local basketball teams.

Alex graduated from the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 2018. Since then, she has been working as a Clinical Pharmacist at Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH). Her interest in teaching came from working as a pharmacist on the Clinical Teaching Unit (Internal Medicine) at WRH. She works daily with medical residents and students as well as precepting pharmacy students and residents. Her other areas of practice in the hospital include Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Care Unit, Infectious Diseases and Emergency Medicine. She is also part of a team of Pharmacists that are ACLS certified who attend codes at WRH to assist with medication administration.

Alex is currently a preceptor for Pharmacy residents on the General Medicine, Internal Medicine and Teaching rotations at WRH. She is also a clinical preceptor for the University of Waterloo and University of Toronto pharmacy students. Alex served as a member of the Windsor/Essex Hospitals Formulary Subcommittee of the P&T Committee from 2020-2021.

Alex is very much looking forward to her new role as the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Windsor/Essex/Chatham/Sarnia and working along side pharmacy preceptors and students in this area.

Scott Ford is currently practicing part-time as a Community Pharmacist with a focus on all areas related to Expanded Scope of Practice. A Pharmacy Graduate at Dalhousie University in 1990, he then moved to Kingston and graduated in 1993 from Queen’s University with an MBA. For over 30 years, he has operated multiple SDM’s in the greater Kingston area.

During that time, he spent over 25 years as a Clinical Consultant Pharmacist in Long Term Care and was a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. He also developed a pharmacist referral program regularly doing home visits for high-risk patients, those with mobility problems, and special needs. He has served on numerous Boards and Associations, both locally and provincially.

His real passion is mentoring, coaching, and enabling students and colleagues to achieve their potential. He has mentored many pharmacists over the years, many of whom are current preceptors.

Scott is excited to be part of University of Waterloo’s PharmD Experiential Learning Program as a Regional Clinical Coordinator. He is looking forward to supporting both students and preceptors in the Eastern Ontario Region, bringing forward his passion for the Profession of Pharmacy, and love of the surrounding area

Tracy joined the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy as a clinical preceptor in 2016, a case assessor for the PharmD bridging program (PHARM 497) in 2016, and the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Sault Ste. Marie in 2019.

After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy in 2003, Tracy returned home to Sault Ste. Marie to start her career as a pharmacist. She worked as a retail pharmacist for two years prior to finding her passion as a clinical hospital pharmacist at Sault Area Hospital (SAH) in Sault Ste. Marie. She continues to work at SAH predominantly as a clinical pharmacist in the renal and oncology outpatient programs. In addition, she works as a clinical pharmacist on the inpatient medical units and occasionally works as a retail pharmacist at SAH's retail specialty pharmacy, iCcare Pharmacy. Tracy's work as a hospital pharmacist has allowed her to explore her passions in patient education, interprofessional collaboration, and expanded scope of practice. She has evolved the role of the renal pharmacist over the past decade, developing many patient education initiatives, a medical directive for anemia management by the pharmacist, and medication reconciliation in the hemodialysis unit and nephrology clinic.

Given her lifelong passion for learning and teaching, Tracy is honoured and excited to be a part of the University of Waterloo’s Experiential Learning Program. In her role as Regional Clinical Coordinator, she is committed to ensuring that our PharmD students have fulfilling clinical rotations that contribute to professional and personal development while providing exceptional patient care.

Leni graduated from the University of Waterloo's School of Pharmacy in 2015, as a member of the first cohort to receive the entry-to-practice PharmD designation. Since then, Leni has worked in various community settings, including retail pharmacies, Family Health Teams, and an outpatient endocrinology clinic.

Mentorship has been a significant focus throughout Leni's career. From 2017 to 2020, they served as a PACE (Practice Assessment of Competency at Entry) Assessor and Coach, appointed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP). Since 2019, Leni has been a Quality Assurance Coach and Assessor at OCP and in 2020, they became a Certified Diabetes Educator. As a Clinical Preceptor, Leni has had the pleasure of mentoring numerous students through co-op placements and patient care rotations. In 2023, Leni assumed the role of Regional Clinical Coordinator for the London/Rural region and was fortunate to receive mentorship from co-RCC Rose Patodia, as part of the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Mentorship Program.

Leni is committed to advancing inclusive health care, particularly concerning 2SLGBTQIA+ health. They focus on recognizing diversity and implementing changes in practice to promote equity. Their advocacy efforts include contributions to Ontario Health’s Quality Standards for Gender Affirming Care, involvement in OCP’s EDI initiatives, and as a board member for local non-profits aimed at developing safe spaces for the rainbow community.

Rosemarie graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto, after which she completed her hospital pharmacy residency.

She has been a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist since 1998 and has worked in various practice settings in Toronto, including community and teaching hospitals, community pharmacy and long-term care. She also held a management position in the corporate office of a national pharmacy chain. Rosemarie's breadth of experience has allowed her to gain an appreciation of the unique role of the pharmacist, and to understand the opportunities for interprofessional collaboration in different healthcare environments.

Rosemarie’s enthusiasm for the profession has kept her engaged in pharmacist education and training throughout her career. In addition to her role as the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Toronto, she is a consultant pharmacist, working with clients to develop patient and pharmacist educational and practice change programs, and continues to be involved in community pharmacy.

Rosemarie has published several articles and continuing education lessons, and has delivered numerous presentations to the media, pharmacists, pharmacy students, other healthcare professionals and public groups on various topics related to patient care, pharmacy professional service and geriatrics.

Rosemarie is excited to be a part of the University of Waterloo’s Experiential Learning Program, bringing students together with preceptors for inspirational learning experiences that contribute to both exceptional patient care and professional fulfillment.

Noëlla Robert-Kappel is the Regional Clinical Coordinator for Barrie and Huntsville. She has 15 years of professional experience in hospital pharmacy and six years in long-term care. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator, a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist, and an assessor for the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada's qualifying examination.

Noëlla is also involved with admission interviews at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. She has lived and worked in Barrie for the past 20 years. An avid sports and outdoors enthusiast, she loves this region of Ontario because of the many beaches, provincial parks, running and biking trails as well as the multitude of winter sports activities and opportunities it provides.

Noëlla looks forward to working with local preceptors across a variety of practice settings to provide Waterloo's PharmD students with meaningful and rewarding patient care rotations — and patients in the area with improved care.

Kristen Watt has been a practicing Community Pharmacist in the Grey Bruce region for nearly 13 years.  A graduate of UofT, Kristen has been a chain staff Pharmacist, independent Pharmacy manager, Chain Pharmacy Associate, a Long Term Care Consultant Pharmacist and now Kristen owns her own Independent Community Pharmacy in the heart of Grey Bruce, in Southampton.  Kristen is heavily involved in Pharmacy in the Grey Bruce region, serving on the vaccine distribution task force during COVID and coordinating and presenting continuing education in Palliative Care, vaccines & COVID therapeutics.  Kristen is also involved in the Grey Bruce Hospice on their board of directors and acts as a palliative care consultant for many programs in the region.  Kristen's Pharmacy is a hub for community care including opioid & substance-use disorder support, palliative care, compounding & more.  Kristen recently moved her Pharmacists out of the dispensary into an office model providing high pharmaceutical care while relying on her Pharmacy technicians to work to the top of their scope in prescription dispensing.  Kristen is very excited to support UWaterloo students in their 4th year rotation in this diverse rural community. 

Charlene graduated from the Lesley Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto in 2009. She began her hospital pharmacy career by completing a hospital pharmacy residency at the University Health Network in 2010.  This residency sparked her initial passion in Infectious Diseases where she has since gained over 10 years of experience as Antimicrobial Stewardship pharmacist and more recently OPAT pharmacist at her hometown hospital, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Whether she is precepting pharmacy students, providing education on hospital wards, or teaching in the classroom at NOSM University and Confederation College, Charlene has found mentoring and helping students achieve their career goals most rewarding.  Charlene is looking forward to her new role as RCC for the Thunder Bay area and working and learning alongside pharmacy preceptors and students.”
