Arts Alumni Class Notes: Winter-Spring 2023

1990s

Brad Regehr

Bradley Regehr (BA ‘93 History & Religious Studies) was presented with the Special Recognition Award by the Canadian Bar Association – British Columbia Branch’s Aboriginal Lawyers Forum in 2021. In January 2022, Brad was appointed King’s Counsel by the Province of Manitoba. In August, Brad was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 17th Edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada 2023 for his work in Aboriginal Law/Indigenous Practice. Brad was also selected by his peers for inclusion in Canadian Lawyers Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in the Non-Profit/Associations Category in September of last year.

2000s

Sacha Doma (BA’ 01, Economics) has been working with Manulife for over 18 years and has recently gained the position of Director of Control Improvement for Global Operations. Through his position he leads as a project manager and provides hands on leadership to team members and supervisors. Sacha is also the President at Sacha Doma Tax, analyzing and preparing financial statements for small business corporations as well as eFile tax prep of individual, small business and corporate tax refunds.

2010s

Seema Bakthula

Seema Bakthula (BA ‘10, Economics & Management Studies) has recently become Klick's new VP of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). She is a recognized leader in the DEI space, with experience in designing and executing strategies in Tech, Transportation, and Communications. In addition to DEI, Seema has demonstrated her expertise in Management Consulting, Organizational Effectiveness, Learning, and Leadership Development. She previously led the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy at Lightspeed Commerce and Rogers. Seema has also served as Vice-chair of the board at SAWC, a not-for-profit that empowers South Asian women to achieve their social, financial, and cultural potential.

Emily Huxley Osborne

Emily Huxley Osborne (BA ’10, Sociology) moved to Nova Scotia last summer for a new adventure and is currently working as a Development Coordinator at Dalhousie University. Before her leave, she made a huge impact at the University of Waterloo as a Senior Alumni Officer for Student-Alumni Bridge. Emily has received a Gold Prix D’ Excellence Award from the Canadian Council from the Advancement of Education as well as a Silver Accolades Award from the Council of the Advancement and Support of Education.

Alyssa Faller (BA ’11, Sociology & Human Resources) currently works as the Vice President Human Resources for People & Culture at Fionic—a fintech company that builds state-of-the-art machine learning platforms. In the past, she has worked as the Director of People & Culture and Strategic HR Projects at Flybits. Alyssa is responsible for building Startups and has an understanding of Talent Attraction, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity, Talent Branding, and Strategic Sourcing that helps lead to successful organizations. As an Entrepreneur, Alyssa realizes that it takes collaboration, detail and heart to succeed.

Salman Shaban

Salman Shaban (BA ‘11 Liberal Studies, Management Science) As a Senior Manager at Lucky Group located in Doha, Qatar, Salman is frequently using his skills in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management Consulting and International Sales. Currently, he not only volunteers as a Capstone Advisor and is a part of the Selection Committee for HEC Paris but is also a Global Ambassador representing the UAE and Qatar since 2014 at the University of Waterloo.

Arjun Bhatt (BA’ 13, Honours Communications & Business (Co-op), Digital Arts Communication specialization) works at KPMG as a National Marketing Director leading ESG service and focuses on assisting clients in becoming more resilient and sustainable organizations. In the past Arjun has worked as a Marketing Communications Specialist at Greenfield Hydroponics Systems Inc, designing, and executing marketing campaigns targeting governments. He has also worked as a Social Media Manager at NutriGreen Sproutz managing and building multi-platform online social communities such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Arjun also has an Executive Certificate in Advancing Sustainability from NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business.

Paulina Morgan

Paulina Morgan (BA ’18, Economics & Business) After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a B.A. in Honours Economics, Paulina entered the world of marketing with a focus on combining creativity and technology. After completing a post-grad course in Customer Experience (CX) in 2022, she has transitioned into the CX industry as a Marketing Automation Manager with her most recent role at Alida, a Total Experience Management tech company.

2020s

Ifrah Arif

Ifrah Arif (BA ’21, Political Science & Business) Ifrah currently works at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada as an Acting Senior Policy and Program Advisor working her way up from Program Officer. She is also the Strategic Research and Outreach Coordinator at Global Student Government who work to provide a global democratic representative body for all students of the world. Ifrah also has experience as Program Officer at Canada Border Services Agency and as a Research Analyst for the University of Waterloo. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Migration and Diaspora Studies from Carleton University.
