Leader for women in accounting profession to receive honorary doctorate

To the delight of members of the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), a celebrated leader in the development of international financial reporting standards will receive an honorary degree at the University of Waterloo’s June 2016 convocation.

Patricia (Tricia) O’Malley FCPA, FCA is not only an outstanding member of the Canadian accounting profession, but a pioneer who has broken down barriers for women and a mentor to many who have followed her path.

O’Malley was nominated for the Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree by SAF faculty. “The demand for her knowledge and wisdom is testimony to the high esteem in which she is held internationally,” says SAF director Tom Scott.

Scott points out that her academic success and strong interpersonal skills got her hired by a predecessor firm to KPMG Canada at a time when few women were accepted. [...]
