For Winter 2021, a novel film course has been planned, offered through the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability (SERS). The course aims to evaluate undergraduate students’ emotional and cognitive engagement with the complexities inherent to environmental issues, portrayed through films.  This course is cross-disciplinary in scope, intended to be taken by students from all six Faculties.  However, the shift to online teaching presents the unique challenge of engaging students with these films. This project aims to investigate how effective films can be as a pedagogical tool within an online teaching environment, and their level of impact on student emotional awareness and communication skills. This will be assessed via the integration of viewer-response strategies into the course. These will include a combination of individual reflection exercises and group discussions, providing unique opportunities for students to develop emotional awareness and reflective communication skills, as well as cross-disciplinary thinking and collaboration.
