LEARN Instructor User Group (CTE686)

This event provides an opportunity for instructors to see examples of innovative ways that other faculty members are using LEARN on campus.  Two or three instructors will present activities that they have created for their students in LEARN.  They will discuss why incorporating the activities into an online environment enhanced the learning experience for their students and share their own experiences of creating and facilitating these activities.  Past topics have included how to use short online quizzes and surveys to enhance in-class discussions and unique ways to enhance student communication and preparation for class through discussion boards.

Learn  in the classroom and in the research environment – Scott Hopkins - Chemistry

Scott Hopkins will discuss how he uses LEARN as an information sharepoint and video host to augment the undergraduate and graduate learning experience in his courses; providing remedial, standard and enrichment opportunities, including self-assessment and participation quizzes. He will also show how he has used a similar approach using a LEARN community group for communicating with and  training his graduate students in his research group.

Rubrics to assess and provide feedback on communication – Linda Carson

Linda Carson uses a variety of different rubrics in LEARN in her large first year course ENVS 131: Communications for Environmental Professions. She will share what works well and not so well with setting up and using rubrics in LEARN. Linda Carson is the Director of Independent Studies.
