David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science professor Michael Godfrey and alumnus Cory Kasper (PhD, 2009) have been awarded most influential paper from Working Conference on Reverse Engineering (WCRE) and the European Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR), for their 2006 paper "Cloning considered harmful" considered harmful (PDF).

National Taiwan University (NTU) has published its annual ranking of world universities based on the performance of scientific papers, aiming to investigate the world’s top research universities.

For a second time, the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has ranked in the global top-20 in subject-area rankings for Computer Science by U.S. News & World Report. 

The global universities ranking uses a pool of 1,000 institutions to create the list of the top 750 schools. The top 750 schools were ranked using 12 indicators such as global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, books, and conferences. 

PhD candidate 

Researchers from the University of Waterloo are partnering with global information company Thomson Reuters to launch a collaborative research investigation on large-scale data integration and data cleaning.

Professor Ihab F. Ilyas, Alexandra Roatis and Mina Farid from the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science will lead the project, which will create algorithms to highlight anomalies in enterprise data sets aimed at improving data quality.

First year Computer Science student Joyce Yang has been awarded a $12,000 HeForShe scholarship. Yang is among five other students entering STEM disciplines this September.
