Specialty Programs and Services

GreenShield plan members have access to the Telemedicine service. However, the cost is 100% plan member paid and not covered under your University of Waterloo Extended Health and Dental Benefits Plan. Plan members can purchase consultations out of pocket at the preferred pricing rate.  Those who choose to use this service will not be reimbursed or compensated. 

Telemedicine allows you to consult a Canadian-licensed healthcare professional for a fee without needing to visit a physical healthcare facility, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals who live in remote areas, have mobility limitations, or require immediate medical advice and are unable to book an appointment with their primary healthcare provider. These healthcare professionals can evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients at a distance and also prescribe medications, paramedical services, and medical items during a consultation.

Once you accept a prescription medication, you’ll have the option to pick it up from any pharmacy in Canada, or it will be delivered right to your door (at no additional cost). Prescriptions for paramedical services or medical items can be sent digitally in the mobile app. 

If you chose to use this user-paid service, you will need to register for Telemedicine on the GreenShield+ website or app in addition to your current account, as you will need to add a payment method.
