Current premiums and subsidies

The following applies to CUPE Local 793 employees only:

  • Plant Operations employees will be reimbursed up to a maximum $235 per year for the purchase of up to two (2) pairs of green-patch work boots.  Alternatively, Plant Operations employees will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $350 every two years for the purchase of green-patch work boots.
  • Food Services employees will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $125.00 for the purchase of up to two (2) pairs of non-slip shoes per year. Food Services employees who are required by the University to wear work boots will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $235.00 per year for the purchase of up to two (2) pairs of green-patch non-slip work boots.  Employees who are required to wear work boots will not receive reimbursement for non-slip whoes.
  • The University agrees to provide a subsidy of $250.00 every two (2) years, for CSA approved prescription safety eyewear. where required by the nature of the job.
  • Shift premium effective May 1, 2024, is $1.35 for each hour on any shift which starts between 3:00 pm and 9:59 pm., except for any twelve (12) hours shifts.
  • Shift premium effective May 1, 2024, is $1.40 for any eight (8) hour shift which starts between 10:00 pm and 4:59 am., and any twelve (12) hour shift which starts between 6:30 pm and 4:49a.m.
  • Meal allowances of $25.00 will be provided for emergency overtime which four (4) hours or more are actually worked.  An additional meal allowance will be provided for each additional period thereafter for which four hours are actually worked.  An employee will also receive a meal allowance for shift extension overtime for which two hours or more are actually worked (with an additional meal allowance after each additional four-hour period worked thereafter).
