Leading with Emotional Intelligence

A leadership development program for University of Waterloo people leaders, built around the EQ-i 2.0 assessment.

Great leadership is more than just strategy and results. It's about how you read a room, navigate pressure, and bring out the best in the people around you. Emotional intelligence is what makes that possible, and it's a set of skills you can measure and deliberately strengthen, not a fixed trait you either have or don't. Leading with Emotional Intelligence is Organizational & Human Development's flagship EQ program, designed to help current people leaders and managers understand their own emotional intelligence and put it to work.

About the program

Who this program is for

This program is designed for individuals in a leadership or people-manager role. If you lead a team or influence others, it's built for you.

If you're looking to strengthen your emotional intelligence but aren't yet in a people-leadership role, OHD offers other EQ learning opportunities from our employee workshops and programs that may be a better fit.

Grounded in a world-leading assessment

The program is built around the EQ-i 2.0 (Emotional Quotient Inventory), the world's leading measure of emotional intelligence. Developed by Dr. Reuven Bar-On and grounded in more than 20 years of research, this scientifically validated assessment measures 15 competencies across five key areas of emotional intelligence, and produces a comprehensive, personalized report benchmarked against workplace population norms.

What the experience looks like

The program combines individual insight with group learning across three stages:

  • The assessment: a short online questionnaire that produces your personalized EQ-i 2.0 report.
  • A one-on-one debrief: a personalized session with a certified practitioner to interpret your results and prepare you for the workshop.
  • A full-day workshop: a full-day session applying your insights alongside a cohort of fellow leaders.

Because of its depth and personalized assessment component, Leading with Emotional Intelligence runs in limited cohorts and asks for full participant commitment.
