Last Friday, representatives from Hicks Morley law firm came to the University of Waterloo to present on recent changes to employment legislation. With the new Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act 2017, comes substantial changes to the Employment Standards Act (ESA), the Labour Relations Act (LRA), and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Topics covered in the presentation included, changes to minimum wage, parental leave, new leaves for domestic or sexual violence and equal pay for part-time, casual, temporary and seasonal employees.
The presentation also covered new entitlement from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) for chronic mental stress, and the Ontario Human Rights Commission Duty to Accommodate.
