Join this workshop event for instructors who are grappling with challenges faced by generative AI, specifically in writing assignments.

All instructors are invited, though we will focus on instructors of writing. This is an inclusive event designed to foster dialogue; naysayers and early adopters are equally welcome. The event will feature Kyle Jensen, Director of Writing Programs at Arizona State University, who will co-facilitate with pedagogy leaders from across campus, including Antonio Muñoz Gómez (Library), Clare Bermingham (Writing and Communication Centre), Trevor Holmes (Centre for Teaching Excellence), Megan Selinger (Undergraduate Communications Requirement), Jay Dolmage (Department of English), and Karen Lochead (Centre for Extended Learning).

Special thanks to the Faculty Association of the University of Waterloo for their generous support of this event.

The goals of this event

1) Provide space for pedagogy experts at Waterloo to highlight  services and resources related to gen AI;

2) Offer a comparative outlook from Director of the largest writing program in North America;

3) Give instructors a guided, open, and honest forum for discussion of issues related to genAI in the classroom;

4) Demonstrate the need for additional resources from Waterloo administration so that this important and pressing issue can be addressed responsibly for all stakeholders involved.

Agenda

The event will feature brief remarks by experts on genAI pedagogy from various Waterloo units, a response from Kyle Jensen, an open Q&A session, a small-group workshop, and networking opportunities.

Refreshments will be provided.

Activities and feedback will be documented and shared with participants and the broader UW Community after the event.

Thanks for your interest! Registration for this event is now closed (June 21, 2024).
