Geoff Fong named Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada

Professor of social psychology Geoffrey Fong has received one of Canada’s most distinguished scholarly honours in being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). Professor Fong is the founder and chief principal investigator of the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (ITC), a world leading research program that has built the evidence base to promote stronger and swifter action to tackle one of the greatest threats to global health. 

Representing diverse backgrounds and disciplines, and the new RSC fellows have been elected by their peers in recognition of outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement. The RSC citation for Professor Fong states:

“One of the world’s leading global health researchers, Geoffrey T. Fong created and leads an immense research program that is evaluating the population-level impact of tobacco control policies in over 25 countries, covering over two-thirds of the world’s tobacco users.

"The International Tobacco Control (ITC) Project has made ground-breaking contributions to advancing science and policies to accelerate and strengthen governmental and advocacy efforts to combat the global tobacco epidemic.”
